Sports Medicine

Sports medicine is a medical discipline involving all the medical aspects linked to the practice of a sport. The sports medicine doctor has developed his knowledge in this particular speciality of medical practice. Sports medicine studies the physiology of sports: energy metabolism, body’s adaptation to effort, training and over-training, fatigue and recuperation, biometry, doping and nutrition.
The doctor in sports medicine diagnoses injuries of the musculoskeletal system on athletes of any level. He can also complete a pretraining evaluation to know if the athlete is capable of beginning or returning to his training. The doctor is qualified to execute various medical techniques, notably injections of cortisone or viscosupplements.
