Safe and adequate care for pregnant women
Pregnancy is a happy step that is accompanied by significant physical changes for the pregnant woman. First, the extra weight load in the abdomen, and, in no time, greatly increasing the stress on the joints of the lower back and pelvic bones. Plus, the hormonal changes are responsible for an increase of the laxity of the ligaments (including those of the pelvis), a phenomenon necessary for delivery.
However, greater elasticity of joints often results in greater instability and vulnerability to injury for the same activities. These two factors mean that the future mommy may feel discomfort and pain during pregnancy. Chiropractic is therefore a good alternative to relieve these discomforts naturally and without the use of drugs.
Safe and appropriate care to the pregnant woman
Chiropractic adjustments are safe for the mother and fetus. Different techniques are used to make soft and comfortable chiropractic care for the pregnant woman and her baby. Using, among others, special tables or maternity pads specially designed for chiropractic care makes chiropractic experience more pleasant, on top of being beneficial.
Stay active throughout the pregnancy and after the delivery
Contrary to popular belief, exercise does not increase the risk of miscarriages, smaller weight babies or neonatal complications. Plus, physical activity at moderate intensity during lactation does not affect the quantity and composition of milk. (Source: Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada).
Instead, it is recommended to move at the same pace (during the first trimester) or with a lower intensity for the remainder of the pregnancy. Please inquire at your chiropractic doctor to change some exercises and adapt your physical activities for your training remains safe. By staying active, you avoid the most intense fatigue, excessive weight gain (especially in late pregnancy), the risk of back pain, gestational diabetes and hypertension. You'll have more chance to recover better after delivery. (Source: Kino-Québec).
